Grown, packaged and shipped exclusively by Wekiva Foliage. Crotons require a large amount of sunlight to develop the pronounced coloring that is characteristic of this plant’s foliage. In the shade or semi-shade they tend to develop a large amount of green color and consequently they should be relocated to a sunny location in order to obtain maximum foliage color.
Batik’s leaves are linear with bluntly, rounded tips, arranged spirally around the stems. The new leaves emerge light green with streaks of yellow and mature to dark green overlaid with red and orange or yellow veins.
Crotons like warm weather, and they tend to grow best in an environment that is around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures below 60 degrees Fahrenheit or chilly drafts of air can cause the plant to lose its leaves, and it is possible that it may even die.
Crotons have some of the boldest and brightest foliage around. Often vividly marked with bright yellow, orange, and red, these exotic plants have a reputation for being high-maintenance due to their tropical nature, but once they acclimate to their new home, they’re quite low-care.
These evergreen tropical shrubs are from Malaysia, known worldwide for their very colorful waxy foliage. Popular as houseplants, but in frost free areas, they can be grown outdoors. Most often seen in Hawaii and Florida, only occasionally in Southern California in warm micro-climates.
